Award Benefits

The selected candidate for Harvard University Environmental Fellows Program 2024 in the USA will receive a comprehensive package that includes:

  • Mentor Commitment: Each candidate must secure a commitment from one or more Harvard faculty members to serve as a mentor and provide office or lab space for the two-year fellowship.
  • New Directions: Harvard candidates and post-docs currently working at Harvard are eligible for the fellowship, provided their research and host arrangements take them in new directions and forge new connections within the University.
  • Full Commitment: Successful candidates should be prepared to work at Harvard for the full two years of the fellowship. Residency in the Cambridge area is required, and any fieldwork trips must be scheduled for the summer or January recess.

How to Apply?

To apply for the Harvard University Environmental Fellows Program 2024 in the USA, candidates must complete the online application form by January 10, 2024, at 5 p.m. (ET). Along with the form, applicants are required to attach the following supporting documents in PDF format:

  • Curriculum Vitae: Include a comprehensive curriculum vitae with a list of publications.
  • Research Proposal: Prepare a detailed research proposal (maximum of five pages, references counted separately), explaining your specific reasons for applying to a Harvard residential environmental fellowship. While it is important to discuss the proposal with potential faculty hosts, the final product should be the work of the applicant.
  • Publications/Writing Samples: Submit up to three publications or writing samples that showcase your scholarly research.

In addition to the above documents, three letters of reference are required, including one from the applicant’s dissertation adviser. The ARIeS application system will send recommendation letter requests via email once the application has been officially submitted. Applicants should communicate with their recommenders in advance to ensure a timely submission. The deadline for recommenders to submit their letters is January 19, 2024.

A letter of support from the applicant’s host, committing to serve as a mentor and providing details about the proposed research and office or lab space, is also required.
